This site in Angel is some distance from the book version of 35PR, which is supposed to be in Marylebone. A nod to the original book location is given in the view from Lucy’s bedroom window, which includes the BT Tower.

Although in the TV series we regularly see Lockwood and Lucy outside 35 Portland Row, we never see George on the street. Ali Hadji-Heshmati revealed at the 27th January 2024 fan event that he has never been to the external location!

The actual address is an end terrace on a C-shaped residential neighbourhood in Islington. At 90 degrees to the house, is the street which also played host to 12, Grimmauld Place, the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix in Harry Potter.

The houses on the square are significantly smaller than the book version of 35PR, although they are of a similar era and basic layout. This made the house only suitable for the external locations. Almost all the buildings in the street are split into apartments.

When you visit, don’t forget to stand in front of the house and look at Kipps’ corner. This is the corner opposite on the left hand side where Kipps stops Lucy and asks her for coffee.

The green space in the centre of the square is a brick-lined reservoir, built in 1856. The residents do not have general access to the site. The reservoir still forms part of the London Ring Main water supply.
