It began with a map…

In “The Hollow Boy” and “The Creeping Shadow”, Lucy discovers George has started to map the hauntings of London to help the agency to identify the central cause of The Problem. We realised that George’s map would be useful to Lockwood & Co fans too. It would enable real world visitors to London to travel to the best sites safely, and efficiently.

Sarah began to map every location mentioned in the Lockwood & Co book series, and every TV location she could track down. Ed was also working on a map of TV locations. When they both realised they were working on the same thing, they decided to join forces. Others joined in, and the George’s Gazetteer team became reality!

What’s in a name?

We chose “George” because he is the ultimate researcher, and “Gazetteer” because this form of publication has long been used to tell tourists if sites and sights are worth a visit. Lockwood mentions his “Gazetteer of British Hauntings” during Lucy’s job interview and, six months into our project, we realised the book is shown on screen in the very first episode of Complete Fiction’s adaptation. (It’s on the table when Lucy moves the half-eaten apple).

It was meant to be!

200 locations and counting…

There are more than 150 locations mentioned in the books, and many more locations used in the Netflix adaptation. As we mapped the sites, it was important to us the details we provide are accurate. So began a new hobby – exploring London to track down the sites!

You may have found some TV locations are listed on other websites written by other people (or AI!), but they aren’t particularly accurate, and definitely aren’t comprehensive. Within our website, you will find the stories of how we identified each location, and came up with (free) tours which you can download and use to visit Lockwood’s London.
